How to claim free GOG games

Sign in, click the giveaway's claim button, and the game is yours. Then download the DRM-free offline installer to keep a backup. Here's how both work and what's free on GOG today.

Short answer

When GOG runs a giveaway, it shows a banner on the GOG.com homepage (and on the game's page). Sign in to your free GOG account and click the claim button before the deadline, and the game is added to your GOG library for good. You don't have to download it right away. Because GOG games are DRM-free, you can later download the offline backup installers from your library in a browser, or install with the optional GOG GALAXY app, and keep the installer files as your own backup. Nothing is free to keep on GOG in our feeds today; GOG giveaways come and go without a fixed schedule.

🪜 How to claim a free GOG game

Go to GOG.com and sign in, or make a free account. You don't need GOG GALAXY or a payment card to claim.
Find the giveaway banner on the homepage, or open the claim link on FreeGG's GOG page.
Read the button: a full giveaway adds the game to your library at no cost. If it's a demo, a prologue or just a discount, it will say so.
Click to claim, then open your GOG library and check the game is there before the giveaway ends.

Claim first, install later. The deadline is only for adding the game to your account.

💾 Download it DRM-free (and back it up)

In a browser: open gog.com/account, select the game and click Download offline backup game installers. Download every part (an .exe plus any .bin files) into one folder, then run the .exe.
With GOG GALAXY (optional): select the game in your library and click Install. GOG recommends GALAXY for updates and resumable downloads, but it isn't required (GOG Support: How do I download my purchased items?).

Saved installers keep working without the internet or a launcher. Offline installers can lag behind the latest patch, and online or multiplayer features sometimes need GALAXY. Like every store, GOG technically sells you a license, but a DRM-free installer is about as close to owning a game as PC gets.

⚖️ GOG vs Epic vs Steam freebies

GOG: occasional giveaways, no fixed day. DRM-free, so you can back up the installer.
Epic: new free games every Thursday at 10 AM CT; you play through the Epic launcher (how to claim).
Steam: free-to-keep promos and giveaway keys, tied to your Steam account (how to claim).

FAQ

How do I claim free GOG games?

When GOG runs a giveaway, it shows a banner on the GOG.com homepage (and on the game's page). Sign in to your free GOG account and click the claim button before the deadline, and the game is added to your GOG library for good. You don't have to download it right away. Nothing is free to keep on GOG in our feeds today; GOG giveaways come and go without a fixed schedule.

Do I keep free GOG games forever?

Yes. A claimed giveaway stays in your GOG library after the promotion ends. Because GOG games are DRM-free, you can also download the offline installer and keep your own backup copy.

Do I need GOG GALAXY to get free GOG games?

No. You can claim in a web browser and download the offline backup game installers from gog.com/account. GOG GALAXY is optional; GOG recommends it for updates and resumable downloads.

How often does GOG give away free games?

There's no fixed schedule like Epic's Thursday drops. GOG giveaways usually show up during sales and special events, so FreeGG checks every morning and emails you when one is live.

Are free GOG games DRM-free?

Yes. Games on GOG don't use DRM, so the offline installer runs without an internet connection or a launcher. Some online or multiplayer features may still need GOG GALAXY.
